Lois C. Reimer

Lois C. Reimer, age 92, passed away Saturday evening, January 3, 2026, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

Lois was born in Harleysville, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1933, the third and youngest child of the late Jacob L. and Edna Nice Clemmer. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 14 and was later baptized and became a member of Salford Mennonite Church in Harleysville where she taught young children in Sunday School and VBS. After graduating from Souderton High School, Lois worked in a men’s coat factory for four years and was a bookkeeper at Hatfield Packing Company for ten years. As a young woman, she also took great delight in her four young nephews, Galen, Vernon, Martin, and Rodney.

Lois served as a Voluntary Service worker at the Mennonite Children’s Home in Kansas City working as a caregiver for young children in a group home setting. While there, she was introduced by mutual friends to her future husband, George. They were married November 25, 1967, in Salford Mennonite Church, Harleysville, Pennsylvania, and moved to Meade, Kansas to begin their life together. Lois worked in the office at Meade Manufacturing until their son, Troy, was born in 1968. Two years later, their second son, Gerald, was born. Lois stayed home when her boys were young, providing a loving foundation and support that continued throughout her life. Later, Lois worked at Friesen Windmill as a bookkeeper and as church secretary for several years.

Lois continued her life of service at Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Meade as a faithful volunteer for over forty years. She was active in the Ladies Sewing Society, the Social Committee, and in teaching Sunday School and VBS. She was also a leader in the church’s Awana program for 36 years, mostly with 3rd grade girls. As her grown sons lived far away from Meade, George and Lois acquired a new “son and daughter-in-law” when Ken and Stella Harder came to pastor the church.

Lois and George had a long and happy marriage, celebrating over 48 years in 2016 when George passed away. Lois was thoughtful, kind, and consistent towards everyone she met. Her humble, steady, and faithful service to the church and to those around her was truly inspiring. She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries, sending cards far and wide up to the last week of her life. Her cooking and baking were legendary, with specialties from her Pennsylvania days like her cinnamon rolls, shoo flies and roll kuchen. Lois loved singing hymns and also singing in the church choir and small ensembles. Children delighted in coming to the Reimer home with its closets full of games and toys, pool and ping-pong table, ample places to run and play, and of course – plenty of homemade snacks. Bringing her gardening skills from her childhood in Pennsylvania, Lois and George kept a large garden full of corn, green beans, potatoes, and peas for decades, sharing the fresh and canned produce with others. Lois made her own wedding dress and many other dresses as well as clothing for her boys when they were small. Through the years she made beautiful and practical quilts, handmade quiet books, and cozy crocheted blankets for her grandbabies. Her attention to details, organization, and practical skills helped keep everyone on track and created a sense of calm. Lois’s positive and encouraging attitude, easy laugh, and her demonstration of the fruits of the Spirit made her pleasant and easy to be around. Lois was truly a treasure who will be deeply missed and remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.

She is preceded in death by George, her husband, her parents, a brother, Curtis Clemmer, and a sister, Ada Clemmer. She is survived by two sons, Troy (wife Emily) of Lawrence, Kansas and Gerald (wife Julie) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan, Lucy, Matthew, Katrina, Kendra, and Abir Zakri. She is also survived by many loving nephews and nieces and their families.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Meade.
