Lloyd E. Sneath

Lloyd E. Sneath, age 97, just a couple of days before his 98th birthday, passed away Thursday evening, January 5, 2023, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

He was born January 7, 1925, in rural Meade County, Kansas, the son of Glen W. (Babe) and Margaret S. (Manning) Sneath. As a young boy he attended grade school in a one room country school before attending high school in Plains. In 1941, his family moved to Meade where he attended Meade High School for one year, graduating in 1942. In 1943, he joined the United States Army Air Corps, serving until 1945. Upon his discharge, he returned to Meade County.

On August 9, 1947, he married Martha Lou Dingess at the United Methodist Church in Meade. After their marriage, the couple lived at the Mertilla Township for two years. They later moved to Ulysses, Kansas, before returning to Meade County. In 1951, they purchased their farmstead near Meade, residing there for sixty-five years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion, served on the Co-Op Board, and served for sixteen years as a Meade County Commissioner. He enjoyed reading, attending sporting events, coaching his sons, traveling to many locations, including Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by three sons, Jim Sneath of Willard, Missouri, Dan Sneath and wife Jane of rural Meade, and Ken Sneath and wife Chris of rural Meade; a brother, Eldon Sneath of Claremore, Oklahoma; a sister, June Reinert of Lakin, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Chad Sneath (Leesa), Cara Stortini (Brock), Shana Sneath, Jayson Sneath (Elly), Leah Schlyer (Marshall), Crista Tacha (Lester), Cherie Wohlgemuth (Delvin), and Deb Sneath; thirteen great-grandchildren, Colton, Chalee, Dominic, Anthony, Brant, Deven, Brinley, Addison, Ava, Cody, Macy, Keeley and Kyra; and several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Martha Lou on November 30, 2016; a son, Thomas Sneath on May 25, 2010; his parents; and a sister, Wanda Hutchison.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Graceland Cemetery. In accordance to his request, cremation has taken place.

The family would welcome memorials to the United Methodist Church or the American Legion for flags in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
