Leaura Plummer

Leaura Plummer, 98, died June 24, 2023, at Belleview Heights, Aurora, CO. She was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin on January 31, 1925, to Oscar Lewison and Edna Doris Dorwin Lewison. She and her mom moved to Kansas two years later where her mom remarried George Hatton and they had 4 more children. Her older sister Lee stayed in Wisconsin and became close to all the brothers and sisters. Leaura has resided in Johnson Kansas ever since.

Leaura graduated from Johnson High School in Johnson, KS. She was a homemaker, gardener, painter and farmer’s wife. She married her husband, Paul E. Plummer Jr. on November 6, 1943. They were married 67 years when Paul passed away in 2010. They had two children, Paul E. Plummer III and Deborah L. Plummer.

Leaura was a loving mom, wife, sister and friend to many in her lifetime. She was always painting, redecorating and spending time with her many dogs and cats. She loved being outdoors, animals, plants and flowers. She and Paul loved traveling in their motorhome. She sang in Sweet Adelines and was a member of Eastern Star. She was active in the United Methodist Church of Johnson where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. Most of all she was a faithful, loving person of Jesus and had a strong faith that carried her through all the joys and challenges of life. She will be missed by many who were blessed to have known her.

She is survived by her daughter Deb Plummer and lifetime family member Cindy Wittebort of Franktown, CO, Carol Garrison, long time friend of Johnson KS, sister Lou Ann Markano (Chuck) of Wichita KS, and brother Bill Hatton (Judy) of Frisco TX. Also, three granddaughters: Heather Plummer Cheney, husband Brian and great-grandson Matthew of Kansas City, MO; Chandra Slusser, husband Benny and six great-grandchildren Kaela, Marnie, Alanna, Charlee, Ben and Nyla of Spring Branch TX; and Rana Coons and her husband Mark and four great-grandchildren Tori (Mario), Drue, Cade and Clara of Lubbock Texas. She has one great-great grandson, Jax, in Lubbock TX. She has many nieces and nephews including Tammy (Dave) Richards and Chuck Markano of Wichita, KS, Jane (Marlin) Kitchen of Michigan and John (Nancy) Bjerke of Wisconsin, Terry Hatton, Dennis Hatton, Rick (Julie) Newton, Kyle Newton and their families all of Kansas, Haley Hatton, Curt Hatton and Bryan Hatton. Also may numerous cousins, second cousins etc that she enjoyed seeing annually at the family reunion.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul Jr. (1924-2010), son Paul III (1944-2020) sister Lee (Speck) Bjerke, sister Gay (Dwayne) Newton, brother George (Bea) Hatton, and her niece Melody Winters.

A graveside service will be held to celebrate both Leaura and her son Paul (who passed away during covid) at 10:00 am on Monday July 3, 2023, at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson. The family will then be at the white house – 204 N Graves – after the service. Friends are welcome to come and visit and celebrate their lives.
