Lawrence Steve Tuttle, 72, of Guymon, Oklahoma passed away Sunday morning, May 10th, 2026 at his home.
The son of John C. Tuttle and Emogene “Slokey” (Brandkamp) Tuttle, he was born February 22nd, 1954 in Liberal, Kansas. Steve was briefly raised in Hooker, Oklahoma, until the Tuttle family moved to Guymon in 1957. He then graduated from Guymon High School with the Class of 1972.
Steve married Rita Jo Castlebury on July 11, 1975 in Clayton, New Mexico. Steve and Rita attended OPSU and are lifetime alumni members. In 1975, Steve and Rita opened Sound Service, a Radio Shack dealer in Guymon, where Steve was an audio technician, electronics repairman, and salesman. Steve and Rita also operated stores in Liberal, Kansas and Dumas, Texas for ten years. In 1987, Steve and Rita purchased the Vestal Motel and operated it as the Pioneer Motel until 2021. Steve semi-retired from Sound Service in 2025 after operating the store for 50 years.
Steve’s hobby was also his work, and he could often be found in the shop tinkering on, troubleshooting, and repairing electronics, or on the sales floor ready to help you find that adapter or component you needed. If you had questions, he had answers. Steve was also an active member of the Guymon Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, and volunteered many years on the City of Guymon Convention and Tourism Board. He was also a founding board member and served on the board of directors for Main Street Guymon. Steve spent many Fridays taking money for the best burgers in town as treasurer and part owner of “The Dunes” country club. He was also a member of the No Man’s Land Historical Society, and briefly served in the Guymon Lions Club.. He enjoyed attending the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but rarely wanted to be away from home for more than 3 days.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, John C. Tuttle; his mother, Slokey Tuttle; his wife, Rita Tuttle, and his brother Fred Tuttle.
Survivors include his daughter, Kim Smith and husband, Drew of Goodwell; his son Nick Tuttle and wife, Brooke of Guymon, and his two grandchildren; Caleb Methvin and Catherine Tuttle. Survivors also include his sister, Connie Conner and husband, Robert of Enid, Oklahoma; his sister Dorthea “Dotty” Post of San Diego, California, his brother, John G. Tuttle and wife, Jennifer of Guymon; his sister Sara Khammash, and husband, Hassan of Arlington, Texas; his sister, Martha Bledsoe of Guymon, and his brother, William “Bill” Tuttle of Guymon.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday morning, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home with Deacon Davin Winger officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Steve can be made to the Slokey & John Tuttle Memorial Scholarship at the Panhandle State Foundation in Goodwell, Oklahoma, or to Feeding Hearts & Hands in Guymon. Memorials will be accepted at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma.
