Larry Wells

Longtime Liberal resident and businessman Larry Wells, 90, passed away on Tuesday July 19, 2022 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal due to respiratory failure.

He was born March 19, 1932 in Guymon, OK to Wesley and Martha (Harke) Wells. He attended school in Guymon and graduated in the class of 1951 and Panhandle State University in 1959 with a degree in Business. He also served in the United States Army stationed in France from 1954 and receiving his honorable discharge in 1956.

During High School he worked for Stanfield Office and Printing learning lifelong skills in the office machine, supply, and printing business. These skills were put to use in 1960 when along with his brother W.D.Wells organized and started Liberal Office Machines. This operation continued until W.D. retired in 2004 when Larry was then joined by son Greg and remained active in the day to day operation until most recently.

Larry married Beverly Edenborough March 16,1954 in Higgins, TX this union was blessed by four children: Nicklous Dean Wells, Gregory Lynn Wells, Deana Jo Wells, and John Russell Wells; they Divorced in 1971. Larry married Pam Orth in 1974 and divorced with no children in 1982. He married Carol McDaniel in 1994 and she passed in 2018.

Larry was a member of the Liberal Jaycees in the 60’s attending several of the national conventions with friends and family. He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church- Liberal. 4-H Leader and former owner/operator of Bitter Creek Guest Ranch in Red River, NM. His favorite service organization was the Liberal Chapter of ROTARY International where he most recently received a certificate for 51 years perfect attendance.

He is survived by: Sons Nicklous D. Wells (Janet) of Dodge City, Gregory Lynn (Chris) Wells, John Russell (Sheryn) Wells of San Antonio, TX, daughter Deana Jo (Dale) Hulsey Orlinda, TN stepson Alan McDaniel of Liberal, sister Yvonne Courterman of Enid, OK brothers W.D. Wells of Liberal, Ronald and Donald Wells of Guymon, OK. Grandchildren: Kendra Wells, Cheyenne Wells of Ft Worth, TX, John Wesley of San Antonio, TX, Trevor Wells of Lincoln, NE, Cassandra Wells of Dodge City, KS and Step- Grand daughter NicoleJohnson of Hugoton and several Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Martha (Harke) Wells, brother Arnold Wells, and wife Carol McDaniel.

Viewing will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday July 22nd at Miller Mortuary with the family present to receive friend from 5:00 pm- 6:30 pm.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 Saturday, July 23rd at the First Christian Church in Liberal. Burial will be 2:00pm at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, OK
