Karoll Gene Wagner, age 91, died Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas. He was born February 8, 1930, in Bison, Kansas, the son of Alvin E. and Dora (Rothe) Wagner.

Karoll attended school in Rush County, Kansas, and graduated in 1950. He joined the United States Army on May 1, 1951, and was Honorably Discharged on April 30, 1953, at Camp Carson, Colorado. He lived in Colorado and Arizona, with most of his life spent in Kansas. Karoll married Ann L. Hill on August 4, 1957, in La Crosse, Kansas. Karoll and Ann had the Shoe Place in Ulysses and he also was an asphalt finisher for Popejoy Construction and Peter Kwitt Construction. Later he operated a Maintainer for Grant County Road and Bridge and retired in 1995. Karoll was a member of Patterson Avenue Church of God and Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79 and enjoyed target shooting and reloading ammo.

Karoll is survived by daughter, Shirley Dowell and husband Edward of Tecumseh, Kansas; two grandchildren, Michelle Berry of Tecumseh, Kansas, and Eddie Dowell of Murdock, Kansas; great-grandkids, Samantha and Lucas Berry and Quinnlan Dowell; and one sister, Dorothy Allen of New Hope, Minnesota.

Karoll is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Dora Wagner; his wife, Ann; and great-grandson, Vincent Nathaniel Berry.

Funeral service will be Friday, June 25, 2021, at 10:00 am at New Beginnings Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Pastor Larry Borthwick and Pastor Israel Franco officiating. The service will also be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery with military rites by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Visitation will be Thursday, June 24, 2021, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Pioneer Manor in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
