Juan Manuel “Coach” Gomez

Juan Manuel “Coach” Gomez, age 59, died Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

He was born on January 5, 1964, to Jesus Manuel Gomez and Maria Paz in Rosales, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Juan was united in marriage to the love of his life, Maria Del Socorro on April 5, 1986, in Rosales, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was the father of two daughters, Gabby, and Alexandra and an excellent papi buelo to five grandchildren that will miss him every day. He enjoyed picking them up from school and spending time with them. Juan had a heart of gold and was loved by many.

He was a very well-known baseball coach in a Mexican League, a sport he loved. His teams took 1st place many times.

Juan worked in beef processing for 35 years at National Beef. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

He is survived by

His wife, Maria Del Socorro Gomez in Liberal, Kansas,

Two daughters, Gabby Urquidi (Adan) of Liberal, Kansas, and Alexandra Gomez of Liberal, Kansas,

Mother, Maria Paz of Rosales, Mexico,

Four brothers, Heriberto Gomez, Servando Gomez, Alfredo Gomez, and Leoncio Gomez, one sister, Argelia Trejo, five grandchildren, Jaylah Orozco, Jayleen Urquidi, Anaylee Pizano, Andrew Pizano, and Arabella Pizano.

He is proceeded in death by his father, Jesus Manuel Gomez, brother Rolando Gomez, and nephew Javier Trejo.

Visitation will be 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, and

10:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.

Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM, on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1510 N. Calhoun, Liberal, Kansas by Deacon Oscar Rodriguez.

Funeral Mass will be 2:00 PM, Friday, June 23, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1510 N. Calhoun, Liberal, Kansas, celebrated by Reverend Augustine Owusu.

A burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.
