John “Ricky” H. Chavez

Joe Denoyer - December 27, 2023 10:04 am

It is with profound sadness and hearts filled we share the news of the passing of John “Ricky” H. Chavez, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished son, dear brother, and treasured friend. On December 23, 2023, at Bob Wilson Hospital, Ricky embarked on his journey beyond this world, surrounded by the love of those who held him closest to their hearts.

Born on May 2, 1962, in the town of Ulysses, Kansas, to Irene and the late Simon Chavez, Ricky grew into a man of warmth and joy, leaving a mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life with his beloved wife, Hilda Chavez, was a love story filled with countless moments of laughter and love.

Ricky’s passion for life was evident in his love for movies, music, and various sports. However, at the very core of his being, his family reigned supreme. He leaves behind a rich and enduring legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever reside in the hearts of his children: Alisha, Ricky, Trista, Andrew, Ashlie, and Matthew. His beloved mother, Irene, stands as a testament to his enduring love, and his absence will be profoundly felt by his siblings: Stella, Simon, Virginia, Rose, Bobby, Becky, and Danny.

Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Simon Chavez, his sister, Ester Chavez, and his late wife, Yolanda Rowland Chavez. His infectious joy and radiant smile are forever etched in the memories of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to Ricky, we find solace in the knowledge that his love will continue to reverberate within our hearts. He will forever be remembered for his unwavering smile and the boundless warmth he brought to every life he touched. His legacy of love extends to his 26 grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply and who will carry forward the lessons of love and joy he so generously bestowed upon them.

We also wish to extend our heartfelt remembrance to Ricky’s stepchildren, Christy, Ruben, and Joey, who held a special place in his heart, further enriching the foundation of his loving family.

A celebration of Ricky’s remarkable life will be held at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where the love he shared will continue to resonate.

Ricky, your departure leaves a void that can never be truly filled, but your spirit will forever serve as our guiding light and a source of enduring comfort. Your memory will continue to warm our hearts, just as your love warmed our lives, and we will forever cherish the love you gave so generously.

Rosary will be Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 3:00 PM and Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 10:00 AM both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Eric Gyamfi officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses. Visitation will be Monday, January 1, 2024, 2:00 PM-8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
