John L. Haynes, age 82, died Monday, May 2, 2022, after suffering many years from dementia at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.

He was born on January 14, 1940, the son of Alvin Harvey Haynes and Edna Marie Haynes (Bates) in Nowata County Oklahoma.

John graduated high school from Nowatta, Oklahoma. He raised one son, Rebb Haynes and one daughter, Sharmyn Calhoun. He married Luetta M. Prosser on September 11, 1988, in Greensburg, Kansas.

John worked as a Production Superintendent in Oil and Gas Fields. He was the owner of K & H Well Service. He also worked for numerous other oil companies during his career. In Liberal he worked for Crown Consulting for 25 years, until his retirement. John was on the Board of Directors for Burrton State Bank and a City Commissioner for Burrton, Kansas. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greensburg, Kansas and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Liberal, Kansas.

He is survived by

Son, Rebb Haynes and wife, Mica of Cherokee, Oklahoma
Daughter, Sharmyn Calhoun of Alvord, Texas
Stepson, Kurt Neelly and wife Sarah of Bowling Green, Kentucky
Stepdaughters, Cassie Kirby and husband, Troy of Greensburg, Kansas
And Keri Shroyer and husband Mark of Hutchinson, Kansas
Brother, Richard Haynes and wife, Donna of Bakersfield, California
Twelve Grandchildren and Step Grandchildren, Sacia Hamilton (Nate), Quincy Calhoun, Grant Calhoun, Chris, Brett, Adam, Kyle, Kelsi, Luke, Aaron, Ryan and Allison.
Five Great Grandchildren and Step Great Grandchildren, Huxton & Caston Hamilton, Amira, Harlow, and Teddy

Brother, Harvey Haynes

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM on Friday, May 13, 2022, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, the family will be present to receive friends.

A Service of Remembrance will follow at 5:30 PM on Friday, May 13, 2022, in the Chapel at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
Funeral Mass will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 14, 2022, at St Joseph Catholic Church, 830 S. Walnut, Greensburg, Kansas.

Graveside Service to follow at Fairview Cemetery, 500 E Pennsylvania Ave, Greensburg, Kansas.
