Jimmie Rogers

Joe Denoyer - May 20, 2020 11:45 pm

Jimmie Joe Rogers, 81, lifelong area resident passed away Wednesday evening, May 20, 2020 at the Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.

The first child of Ernest James “Skinny” and Effie Ruth (Hunter) Rogers, Jimmie was born October 2, 1938 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. The family moved to Guymon when Jimmie was young. He graduated from Guymon High School with the GHS Class of 1956 and then attended Panhandle State University, where he liked to say he majored in pool hall.

When he was growing up, Jimmie was fascinated by a bobtail truck his father owned that was used for hauling grain and livestock. He quit college as soon as he got a job to haul cattle at Shidler, Oklahoma, driving a truck owned by Bob Massey and Bob Whitlock. This would become his life-long career and passion. He returned to Guymon and drove a truck belonging to Delbert Johnson that was leased to Alex Hofferber. In 1965, he bought his first truck and remained leased and working at Hofferber Truck Line.

In 1975 he started his own business in a round top building in Liberal, KS during that same year he purchased the property five miles west of town where he operated his livestock hauling business for over forty years. The name Jimmie Rogers Trucking and the legendary owner were well known in his industry. The many years he was in business brought him so many cherished experiences with his drivers, employees and customers. He was always happy to share a story or two about the many mishaps along the way. He truly loved trucks, dispatching and anything that had to do with trucking.

Jimmie and Sharon J. Davison were married on October 10, 1978 in Clayton, New Mexico. He was a member of the Turpin First Baptist Church, where he was baptized in September 2016. Jimmie was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Kansas Motor Carrier Association and the National Pork Board. He was an avid fan and supporter of sprint car racing and enjoyed trap shooting.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Rogers of the home in Liberal; his sister, Lila Barker of Guymon; six daughters: Brigitte Flores and Mylo Salinas of Liberal, Brenda Rogers and Michael Roney of Piedmont, OK, Erica and Danny Neal of Liberal, Lorri and Ivan Clark of Guymon, Amy and Joe Kane of Guymon and Brenda and Samir Kanjo of Orange, CA; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jim Barker.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, Kansas with Rev. Dan Cox, pastor of the Turpin First Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
