Jessie Nickerson

Jessie Nickerson, age 84, passed away, Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born on December 2, 1941, in Pueblo, Colorado to J.T. and Marie (Smith) Randles.

Jessie moved to Grant county in 1948, where she spent most of her life. She married Merle Nickerson Jr. August 9, 1958, in Ulysses, Kansas. Later in life, she and Jr. returned to school where she took numerous art classes and they earned their GED’s together. She was active in Grant County 4-H. She owned and operated Kountry Klutter where she created many beautiful and unique arrangements and more. She was a member of the Flower Club and the Hospital Auxiliary. Jessie enjoyed going to auctions with Jr., cooking, quilting and baking. She spent many hours with Jr. out on the tractor and combine. Jessie was a member at Shelton Memorial Christian Church where she helped with Bible School and was actively involved in CWF. She served in many ways such as chicken spaghetti dinners for the UHS girls basketball team and was always ready to lend a hand to elders in the community.

Jessie is survived by her daughters, Merlene Spencer and husband, Garry, and Marlene Johnson and husband, Steve; sister, Betty McCauley, all of Ulysses; grandchildren, Krystal Morlock and husband, John, James Courtney Watson and wife, Patricia, Levi Spencer and wife, Rachel, Mandy Moral and husband, Bryce; and five great- grandchildren, Rebecca, Ian, Liam, Luke and Logan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle Nickerson Jr.; parents; infant brother; brother, Sam Randles; sister, Verna Randles; and grandsons, Nathan Spencer and Colby Spencer.

Graveside service will be Monday, June 8, 2026, at 11:30 AM at the Ulysses Cemetery with Keric Sullivan presiding. Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorials may be given to Grant County 4-H in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W.
