Jay L. Edgar, age 82, of Elkhart, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born October 28, 1943, in Elkhart, Kansas, to Glenn and Lois (Eversol) Edgar.
Jay graduated from high school in Walsh, Colorado, before attending Denver Business School, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He lived in Elkhart until 1987, when he relocated to Johnson, Kansas. In 1992, he returned home to Elkhart. Jay spent a big part of his life farming. He also worked for Teeter Irrigation as a salesman, selling sprinklers. Outside of work, Jay enjoyed many hobbies. He had a passion for gardening and loved growing beautiful flowers. He was also a fanatic of hot rods and street rods and enjoyed admiring classic vehicles and sharing stories with fellow car lovers. Jay enjoyed visiting local restaurants, creating memories over good meals and conversation. Above all else, Jay’s greatest joy in life was his family. His grandchildren were his whole world, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
He is survived by his son, Clay Edgar and wife Amy of Johnson; two grandchildren, Jaydon and Emily both of Johnson; sister, Glenda Worm and husband Buddy of Elkhart; nephews, John T. and Jess; and nieces, Jori, Juda and Jubi.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Rance Edgar in 1998.
Funeral service will be Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with Pastor Erik Miravete officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:00 PM at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kansas. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with family present, at Garnand Funeral Home, 514 Kansas St, Elkhart, Kansas.
