Janice L. Barton, age 84, of Johnson, Kansas, died January 7, 2024, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson. She was born on June 17, 1939, in Kingman, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Nannye Alice (McCandless) Gibson.

Janice grew up in Kingman and married Leon Barton on June 7, 1957, in Kingman. They moved to Johnson in 1959 where they raised their family and were active in the community. Janice was a cook for the Johnson Grade School for 26 years, and she and Leon cleaned the First United Methodist Church for 17 years. Janice loved to cook and spend time with her family and grandkids. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandma.

Janice is survived by her husband, Leon of their home; children, Kathy (Barton) Nelson of Payson, Arizona, Gary Barton and wife Sandy of Johnson, Shannon (Barton) Molitor and husband Kirk of Spearville, and Greg Barton and wife Jamie of Derby; brother, Don Gibson; grandchildren, Jessica Nelson, Lee Nelson and wife Seletha, and Emma (Nelson) Tucker and husband Adam, Derya (Barton) Walsh and Breann (Barton) Powers and husband Austin, Heather (McFall) Manley and husband Andrew, Braddan McFall and wife Whitney, Derian (Barton) Brewer and husband Derek and Madison Meza; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Peggy Dutton; brother, Bill Gibson; and great-granddaughter, Annabelle Powers.

Funeral service will be Friday, January 12, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with Reverend Jacques Kambol officiating. Graveside service will be Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman, Kansas, with Pastor Brad Kirk officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
