James (Jim) Clark Oswald

Joe Denoyer - June 26, 2023 6:07 pm

James (Jim) Clark Oswald, 75, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas.

He was the son of Raymond Clark and Mable Irene (Sloan) Oswald. He was born on January 17, 1948, in Elkhart, Kansas. He graduated from Yarbrough High School in 1967, and then attended Oklahoma State University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

James (Jim) and Wanda Lou Riggs were married on June 21, 1969, at First Christian Church, Elkhart, Kansas. They just celebrated 54 years of marriage. To this union were born two daughters, Tina and Tiffany.

Jim was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his precious grandchildren. He was often building things with his hands and really enjoyed “tinkering.” Another of Jim’s favorite past times was to antagonize young people, especially about their political affiliation. He loved being in the Colorado Mountains, surrounded by the pine trees listening to the gurgling of a cool stream.

Jim was a member of the First Christian Church of Elkhart. He served on the Yarbrough school board for over 30 years. He truly believed in the children of the community and strived to provide them with the best possible education. He also served on the Elkhart CO-OP Board, Texas County Oklahoma FSA Board, and Farm Bureau of Oklahoma Board. While serving as fire chief of the Yarbrough volunteer fire department, Jim assisted in designing one of the fire trucks.

Jim’s survived by his wife, Wanda Oswald, Keyes, OK.; two daughters, Tina Floyd and companion, Bryan Hines, Choctaw, OK., Tiffany Esarey, Hugoton, KS.; a brother, Charles Oswald, Decatur, IL.; a sister, Margaret Ann Brown and Chalmer, Elk City, OK.; his mother-in-law, Ferol Riggs, Guymon, OK; and three grandchildren, Shelley Rodriquez, Mason Oswald, and Ariah Esarey and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established for The Guthy-Jackson Research Foundation, in care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 606, Elkhart, KS 67950.

The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at Yarbrough Public School, Yarbrough, Oklahoma with Pastor Jim Cunningham.
