James E. “Jimi” Cartwright

James E. “Jimi” Cartwright, age 68, of Johnson, Kansas, died Sunday, October 30, 2022, at The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born January 22, 1954, in Syracuse, Kansas, the son of Morris and Rena Mae (Warren) Cartwright.

Jimi was a lifetime resident of Johnson, growing up he was a Boy Scout and earned Eagle Scout. He graduated in 1972 from Stanton County High School, a class that is still very close and keeps in contact with each other, he enjoyed helping and organizing class reunions. He attended Kansas University and returned home and joined his father in the family businesses, Twin C Hardware and Cartwright Construction. Jimi married Polly Hinton on January 16, 1982, in Johnson. He was a past Scout Master and enjoyed numerous Scout trips. He served on the USD 452 Board of Education and Prairie Pines Golf Course Board, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Jimi was very intelligent and could build anything he was presented with. He loved listening to music and watching KU sports, KC Royals and KC Chiefs games. Jimi will be remembered by his devotion to his family and working hard to make sure they had what they needed.

Survivors include his wife, Polly of their home; son, Mitchell Cartwright of Johnson; daughters, Danyiel Elizabeth Walker and husband Jack of Meridian, Idaho, Mandy Cartwright of Joseph, Oregon, and Jessica Leigh Cartwright and partner Tony Smith of Liberty, Missouri; sisters, Doris Van Slyke of Halstead, Kathy Cockreham and husband Walter of Wichita, Lynda Haley and husband Buddy of Claremore, Oklahoma, Mary Buckley and husband Randy of Garden City; grandchildren, Kelsey, Damon, Trent, Kayla, Macy, Gabriella and Marcos; and great-grandchildren, Raylan, Kayson, Kydin and Omari.

Jimi is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Rena Cartwright; and sister, Pati Mendoza.

Memorial service will be Monday, November 7, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with Pastor Mary Courtney and Reverend Glenn Fogo officiating. A family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Stanton County Cemetery.
