Jacob Koehn

Joe Denoyer - October 13, 2023 4:50 pm

Jacob Koehn was born October 20, 1936, to Edward and Katie Koehn Koehn at Ulysses, Kansas. He peacefully answered God’s call on Sunday October 8, 2023, at 7:45 A.M., at Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kansas, nearly reaching the age of 87 years.

His childhood was spent in the Ulysses, Kansas community. At 15 years of age, he heard the call to salvation and by faith accepted Christ as his Savior. He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on February 11, 1942, by Minister Vernon Nightengale, at Copeland, Kansas. The family appreciated the gentle spirit that grew in his life after his reconsecration in early 2000.

Jacob found his life’s companion in Ella Rose Koehn. On April 20, 1958, they were married by Minister Jesse Koehn at Livingston, California. To this union were born nine children. Our parents’ married life was highlighted by frequently moving from one locality to another, living in Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Washington, and Arizona. In April of 2021, Father and Mother moved to Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas. They shared life’s joys and sorrows for sixty-five years. He was longing to go home with Mom. He dreamed of Mom coming to see him.

Dad was a hard worker. He enjoyed working with wood and made many toys without any plans. He was a very social person and did handyman work for anyone. We remember Dad sitting in his chair and singing out of the Blue Christian Endeavor or the Christian Hymnal.

He was very determined to live what he believed was right.

Those left to cherish memories are his family: Twila and Steve Koehn, Anthony and Virginia Koehn, Wes and Sara Koehn, daughter-in-law Carol Koehn, Karen Koehn all of Stover, Missouri, and Dexter and Tammy Koehn Ulysses, Kansas. Two sisters Wilda Yost, Ulysses, Kansas, and Louella Koehn, Montezuma, Kansas. Two brothers, Lee Vern Koehn, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Wilbur and Lovella Koehn, Grant, Nebraska: 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ella Rose, four children: Meloney, Daniel, David, and Monty: parents Edward and Katie, three brothers Andrew, Donald, and Marvin, one grandson and one great-grandson.

The family would like to thank the Bethel Home staff for the care and love they showed to Jacob while he was living there.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 3:30 PM at Oakridge Mennonite Church in Stover, Missouri, with Minister William Koehn and Minister Stanton Unruh officiating. Graveside service will be Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 4:00 PM at Grant Mennonite Church Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Arrangements are in the care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
