JD Cox, 85, of Liberal, died Friday March 27, 2020 at Southwest Medical Center.

He was born on August 30, 1934 to DB & Jessie Cox in Tulsa, OK.

On April 4, 1956 he married Kay Howell at Clayton, NM.

He graduated from Liberal High School where he lettered in multiple sports. He received a scholarship to play football at Dodge City Community College. He was honorably discharged from the Navy after serving for four years. He retired from Nash Finch after 40 years. He has had many interests over his lifetime. JD was an accomplished horse trainer & cowboy. He was passionate about coaching & participating in youth sports. In addition, he ran the Liberal Youth Center for several years. He was an avid golfer with numerous hole in ones. He loved animals & always had a dog with him whether in his golf cart or truck. He served his community as a reserved police officer for multiple years.

He is survived by his wife Kay of 64 years.

He is also Survived by Sons, Jay Cox, Joe Cox & Steve Cox. Daughter-in-law Tonya Helker Cox; Grandchildren, Tanner Cox and wife Kelsey, Courtney Cox Burkey and husband Troy, Jaeger Cox and wife Denise Cox, DR. Kaily Cox, Jaerzen Cox. Grandchildren, Brogan Burkey, Vivian Burkey, Cambrie Cox.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
