J. Courtney Brown, 86, of Liberal, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at his home.

He was born on November 22, 1933 to Glenn and Mildred (Baine) Brown at Liberal, KS.

He was a graduate of Liberal High School; class of 1951

On April 5, 1953 he married Patricia Aschman at Clayton, NM; she preceded him in death on March 30, 2014

Courtney was active in Liberal High School athletics and other activities. He was recruited for Basketball by Phog Allen with the University of Kansas, Hank Iba with Oklahoma State University, and Ralph Miller with Wichita State University; he chose to play with Wichita State University. Courtney was an Entrepreneur with many business ventures and continuing on with his father at Brown’s Furniture. He enjoyed boating at Lake Wilson and spending time at his cabin in Cuchara, CO. Courtney also enjoyed working his farmland.

Courtney is survived by two Sons- Michael Scott Brown and wife Patty of Fountain Hills, AZ, Alan Brown and wife Jolene of Liberal, KS; Daughter- Shelly Kay and husband Ladd Welch of Olathe, KS; Brother- Michael Todd Brown of Windsor, CO; Sister- Stephany Hughes and significant other John Hill of Excelsior Springs, MO;
Eight Grandchildren- Ashley Kappelmann and husband Brock, Jessica Morrow and husband Matt, Britt Short and husband David, Todd Brown and wife Dominique,
Brandon Brown and wife Allison, Lauren Edwards and husband James; Natalie Lowry and husband Nic, Austin Welch; 21 Great Grandchildren-
Brady Kappelmann, J. Brooks Kappelmann, Bren Kappelmann, Halle Morrow, Chloe Morrow, Ashlyn Morrow, Brooklyn Short, Peyton Short,McKenna Short,
Trenton Short, Hudson Brown, Parker Brown, Quinn Brown, Zoe Brown, Lilah Brown, Gemma Brown, Ivy Brown, Paisley Brown, Kai Brown, Clayton Edwards, Audrey Edwards, Jack Lowry, and Addy Lowry.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and Brother- Booth Alan Brown.

Private Family Services will be held at the Liberal City Cemetery, Liberal, Kansas.
