Henry Lee Cogburn

Henry Lee Cogburn, 72, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away November 22, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon, Oklahoma.

Henry was born February 18, 1942 in Guymon, Oklahoma, the son of Alva Lee and Thelma Lois Palmer Cogburn. He grew up on a farm south of Goodwell and then the family moved to Pilot Point, Texas, then back to Goodwell where Henry graduated high school with the Class of 1960.

He attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell for one year then was united in marriage to Sue Pickard on September 17, 1961 in Goodwell, Oklahoma. They moved near to Pringle, Texas where Henry worked for a farmer, later to Elkhart, Kansas and to Hitchland.

He farmed for his grandparents back near Goodwell and suffered a back injury which motivated him to return to PSU to complete his education graduating with a BS in elementary education. He began working in the oil and gas industry as a well pumper which he continued up to the time of his death.

In 1967 they moved to Guymon for Sue’s job and in 1970 moved to the farm south of Goodwell and in 1986 to rural Adams where they lived until 2014 when they moved into Hooker.

Henry was a member of the Church of Christ in Hooker and a lifelong member of the NRA.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Andy Edward who passed at the age of four.

Members of the family include his wife, Sue of the home; one son, Mark Cogburn and his wife Cindy of Moncure, North Carolina; two daughters, Penny Martin and her husband Ronnie of Sallisaw, Oklahoma and Joy Williams and her husband Bradley of Kotzebue, Alaska; two granddaughters, Michelle Baker and her husband Paul of Seattle, Washington and Marsha Martin of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; his sister, Terry Brand and her husband Herbert of Guymon, Oklahoma and niece and nephew, Emily Lloyd and Bryan Lloyd.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Hooker with Lance Morrisett officiating. Interment will be in the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Church of Christ in Hooker for childcare at Christian Children Home’s and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.
