Fred Lock, age 95, of Ulysses, Kansas died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born August 24, 1916 in Barton County , Kansas , the son of Henry and Magdalena (Mai) Lock.

Fred attended Blood Creek School District 85 and graduated in 1935 from Otis Rural High School Otis , Kansas . He married Ethel Lenora Brack on September 4, 1938 in Great Bend , Kansas . They were married for 71 years. Fred was a plant manager for Producer’s Gas Company in Barton County , and then a gas well operator for Kansas Natural Gas for 42 years; starting on July 3, 1939 and retiring on September 1, 1981 . Fred has lived in Ulysses since 1954. He played town team baseball in Barton County and was on a league bowling team in Ulysses. He was a sports fan; enjoying baseball, and was a KU basketball and Nebraska football fan. Fred was a handyman and finish carpenter known for his picture frames and gavels. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church .

He is survived by one son, Ross Lock of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two daughters, Susan Wheeler and husband Dennis of Arkansas City, Kansas, Connie Flohr and husband J R of Ulysses, Kansas; one sister, Minnie Katherine Lock Alcott of Wheatridge, Colorado; five grandsons, Kerry Lock and wife Kim of Bakersfield, California, Kevin Lock and wife Elizabeth of Escondido, California, Rusty Wheeler and wife Angie of Wichita, Kansas, Derald Wheeler and wife Tina of Arkansas City, Kansas, Bryan Flohr and wife Lori of Liberal, Kansas; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel on September 30, 2009 ; four brothers, Henry Lock, William Lock, Siegmund Lock, Herman Lock; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Lock, and Mollie Lock Wagner Maier.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Wayne Flanders officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery . Friends may call Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church or Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79 baseball program in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave , Ulysses , KS 67880 .
