Fidencia Cortez

Fidencia Cortez, age 43, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, Kansas. She was born August 1, 1977, in La Mesa, Texas, the daughter of Arturo and Gloria (Rodriguez) Cortez.
Fidencia was a CNA at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses and worked for Ulysses Laundry for 14 plus years. On November 12, 2017, Fidencia gave her life to God. She loved to share her testimony and preach the gospel to everyone. A very loving mother, she loved her children and did everything she could for them. She enjoyed going and watching all the events they participated in. She was proud to be a “Soccer Mom” and her children considered her their “HERO”. Fidencia was a very hard worker, humble, and was always giving a helping hand to others. She was very funny and made so many around her laugh. She was a member of New Life Church in Ulysses.
Fidencia is survived by her children, Erasmo Cortez of Houston, Texas, Gabby Sanchez of Ulysses, Juan Cortez of Garden City, Kansas, Yessenia Nava of Ulysses, Brenda Nava of Ulysses, Camila Murillo of Ulysses, Cristina Leyva of Ulysses, and Cristal Leyva of Ulysses; mother, Gloria Cortez of Ulysses, siblings, Juan Cortez. Maria Landeros, Rosalinda Cortez, Elpidio Cortez, Jose Santos Cortez all of Ulysses, Cristobal Cortez of Houston, Texas, Victoria Cortez of Ulysses, and Francisco Cotez of Houston, Texas; 5 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fidencia is preceded in death by her father, Arturo Cortez, brother-in-law, Cesar Manuel Landeros, and first husband, Erasmo Talavera.
Funeral service will be Friday, January 15, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, Kansas, with Minister Warren Baldwin officiating. Services may also be viewed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Live. Visitation will be Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Fidencia Cortez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
