Erna Edna Brown

Erna Edna Brown, 96, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.

She was born October 26, 1917 at Chinook, Montana, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Peters) Enns.

She married Marlin Brown on September 4, 1938 at Liberal, Kansas. He preceded her in death.

She and her husband farmed for many years in the Wide Awake area west of Liberal. She had also worked at Anthony’s and Panhandle Eastern in Liberal until moving to Hobbs, NM where she sold real estate for 10 years. Erna enjoyed walking, snooker, cooking, gardening, church and working. She was a member many clubs and organizations including the Mariam Tuck Circle, JUG Club (Just Us Girls), 4-H Wide Awake Club, McArthur Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church Sunday School Class and the Home Demonstration Unit. She was also active in the First Baptist Missionary Circle.

Her survivors include two sons- Gerald Brown and wife Marjorie of Ardmore, Oklahoma; Donald Brown and wife Cherie of Rapid City, South Dakota; one grand-daughter- Saundra Shaw and husband Barry of Rapid City, South Dakota; one grandson- Patrick Brown and wife Stacey of Rapid City, South Dakota; four great grandchildren: Kelli Shaw, Leigh Shaw, Justin Brown, Alana Brown all of Rapid City, South Dakota. one step-sister: Sylvia Krieger and husband Norbert of O’Neal, Nebraska; several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, step-father and step-mother – Henry and Elsie Neufeld Enns; granddaughter & great grandson- Betty Jo Brown and son Jonathan;

Three half sisters – Leona Fortner, Violet Heaton and Ruby Mehl; two half brothers – Johnny Enns and Alvin Enns.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am Monday July 21st at First Baptist Church with Pastor Loren Robinson officiating.

The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church of Liberal.
