Elizabeth L. (Betty) Cordes, age 91, passed away late Tuesday evening, February 24, 2026, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

She was born June 15, 1934, in rural Osage County, Kansas, the daughter of John and Orpha (Menely) Wilson. As a young girl, she attended school in Melvern, Kansas, graduating in 1952. After her graduation, she began a career in health care for twenty years.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and LWML, serving as a past president. She enjoyed crocheting, camping, spending time in the outdoors, sporting events, attending her children’s activities, and spending time with her family and friends.

On March 14, 1969, she married Ronald Cordes at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Joyce Mingus of Meade, Sandra Cain of Tyrone, Oklahoma, Gilbert Hoffman of Weatherford, Texas, Kinberly Hirsh of Simi Valley, California, and Bill Cordes of Tonganoxie, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty-two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a son, Tanis Cordes; her parents; a brother, Clinton Wilson; and a sister Roberta O’Brian.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade. Interment will follow in the Atwater Cemetery, rural Meade. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to St. John Lutheran Church of the Lester Tacha Vicarage Fund in care of the funeral home.
