Edwin Applegate

Edwin A. Applegate, age 75, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas after a long battle with leukemia. He was born November 24, 1936 the son of Paul D. and Edna (Hamer) Applegate.

Ed graduated from Arlington High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. He has lived in Ulysses the last 60 years. On November 18, 1961, he married Rachel King at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas. He retired from Ace Hardware in Ulysses. He enjoyed gardening and working with electronics. Ed was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, sang in the choir and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel of the home; son Steven King and wife Ginger of Newton, Kansas; daughter, Suzanne Chandley of Hutchinson, Kansas; brother, Robert Applegate and wife Wilda of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Iona Applegate of Arlington, Kansas; grandchildren, Marisa Honomichl of Wichita, Shannon Hendricks and husband Tim of Sterling, Kansas, Carrie Claassen and husband Lance of Newton, Kansas, Chris King and Alisha Klein of Newton, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Cassie Morales, Henry and Ava Claassen, Chloe and Victoria King, Michael and Seth Hendricks,; great great grandson, Landon McClintock; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws, Mary and Don Rios, John and Alice King all of Ulysses, Kansas, and Rosalie King of Manhattan, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Wesley.

Vigil service and rosary will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 7:00 PM and funeral mass will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Trong Binh Tran officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 10:00AM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Leukemia Society or Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
