Donald Dean King Sr.

Donald Dean King, Sr., 80, died Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the VA
Hospital, Dallas , TX .

He was born December 13, 1931, in Liberal, KS, the son of John R. and
Nora E. (Lawder) King.

He was a 1950 graduate of Turpin High School . He received a BS Degree
from Oklahoma A&M (OSU), and a MS Degree from Kansas State Univ.

He married Catherine O. Wilson on August 27, 1952, at Broken Bow, OK.
She preceded him in death in 1998.

He served in the USAF from 1955 to 1975, retiring with the rank of
Major. Wartime service was in the Vietnam War. During his service, Don
received many medals and commendations including the Distinguished
Flying Cross, Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal , Air Force
Outstanding Unit Award and a total of 10 Oak Leaf Clusters.
He was a Counselor and Instructor at Seward County Community College in
Liberal from 1975 until retirement in 1995.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Liberal, Masonic Lodge
Fargo # 300, Guthrie , OK Consistory, and Midian Shrine, Wichita . He was
a member and past president of the Liberal Noon Lions Club.

Survivors include
2 Sons – Donald D. King, Jr. and wife Monica, of Pleasant Hill, CA, and
Glen E. King and wife Reba, of Plano, TX;
1 Brother – Edsel King of Wellington, KS;
1 Sister – Bessie Strickland, of Tulsa, OK;
8 Grandchildren – Jason King, Valerie Williams, Twins – Joy King and
Renee Seaberry, Dane King, Aaron King, Brian King, Melissa Wendell;
1 Great-Grandchild – Micaela Marie King;
Companion – Linda Miller of Liberal, KS

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William, and a sister
Joyce Cain.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 13 , 2012, at
First Presbyterian Church in Liberal, with Pastor Rex Petty presiding.
Burial to follow at Liberal Cemetery . Full military honors to be given
by McConnell Air Force Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 10 am – 8 pm Friday and 9 – 11:30 am Saturday at
Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church,
Stepping Stone Shelter or Liberal Area Rape Crisis Center in care of
Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd St. , Liberal , KS 67901 .
