Dennis L. Tregellas

Joe Denoyer - January 27, 2023 7:27 pm

Dennis L. Tregellas, age 79, son of Richard and Irene Tregellas, husband of Genevieve “Jan” (Llewellyn) Tregellas, and father of Steve Tregellas and Tammie Boykin (Talley), passed away on January 26, 2023.

Dennis was a hard-working family man who provided well for his family. He worked 30+ years for Panhandle Eastern and was a carpenter in his spare time, repairing and roofing houses in the community. He loved the outdoors, especially the mountains of Colorado, where he took his family every year for camping vacations. He and Jan loved to go birding and photographing wildlife.

Dennis loved volunteering with the Boy Scouts. He was Scout Master for several years, even being granted the Silver Beaver Award. He served on Elkhart City Council from 1987-1990.

With his wife having a daycare in their home for over 30 years, all the kids cared for by Miss Jan also had a special place in Dennis’ heart, and they loved when he got home from work to spend time with him. Even all the neighborhood kids on the block knew they could come to Dennis to get a flat bicycle tire aired up. He loved helping people.

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Genevieve (Jan); his father, Richard Tregellas; his mother, Irene Tregellas; his infant sister Barbara Kay Tregellas; his brother Jim Tregellas; and his brother Lon Tregellas; brother-in-law Jack Thompson. He is survived by his two children, Steve Tregellas and Tammie Boykin (Talley), and his sister Linda Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family has chosen Children of Promise for memorial donations in the care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 606, Elkhart, Kansas. Children of Promise is a child sponsorship program associated with the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana).

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. at First Church of God in Elkhart, with Pastor Denny Huebner presiding. Burial to follow at Elkhart Cemetery.

Robson Funeral Home of Elkhart is overseeing the arrangements.
