Dennis J. (Red) Foster

PLAINS – Dennis J. (Red) Foster, age 66, passed away Friday morning, December 23, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, Kansas.

He was born July 5, 1956, at Denver, Colorado, the son of James Thomas and Marjorie Frances (Brown) Foster. As a young boy he attended school in Newton, Meade, and Plains, Kansas. A resident of Plains since 1969, he was a gas industry technician for over thirty-eight years.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, camping, being in the outdoors and spending time with his family, friends, and time in their mountain cabin.

On February 16, 1974, he married Connie Venard at Plains. She survives.

Other survivors include his children Mindy Schmidlkofer and husband Willie of Plains, Dennis Foster and wife Nicole of Meade; four brothers, Leslie Foster and wife Regina of Dennison, Texas, Michael Foster and wife Pat of Annapolis, Maryland, Larry Foster of Meade, and Leroy Foster and wife Shelly of Edmond, Oklahoma; a sister, Kathy Shelman and husband Larry of Plains; four grandchildren, Derek, Kade, Kali, and Lake; a sister-in-law Sandy Vanderpool, of Meade and brother-in-law John Venard and wife Melissa, of Plains.

Proceeded in death by his parents, his in laws John and Sue Venard, his brother in laws, Rusty Venard, and Dale Vanderpool and his great- grandson Finn.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Plains Cemetery, Plains. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery.

The family would welcome memorials to the Friends of the Meade State Lake in care of the funeral home.
