Darlene (Fischer) Lucero

Darlene (Fischer) Lucero, age 55, of Ulysses, Kansas died Friday, December 6, 2013 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born November 12, 1958 in Ulysses, Kansas, the daughter of Milton “Mike” and Joan (Huber) Fischer.

Darlene grew up in Ulysses and Grove, Oklahoma where she gradated valedictorian of her class. She married Jerry Stevens, they later divorced. She married Max Lucero in Garden City, Kansas. Darlene worked for over 20 years at the post office as a mail carrier, in the warehouse and at the front counter. She was a very giving person with a generous heart. She was an accomplished pianist and shared her talent at the Faith Fellowship Church where she attended and also taught Sunday school classes. When Darlene wasn’t working she was caring for the elderly, and she loved hiking in the mountains and spending time outdoors.

She is survived by her husband, Max Lucero of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sons, Ryan Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Shelby Stevens of Ulysses, Kansas; mother, Joan Fischer of Ulysses, Kansas; brother, Steve Fischer of Park Hill, Oklahoma; sister, Karen Young of Park Hill, Oklahoma; and granddaughter, Devyn Michelle Stevens.

She is preceded in death by her father, Milton in 2006;

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Oasis Church in Ulysses, Kansas with John Duran officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Friends may call Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
