Charlotte W. Butler, 96, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away March 2, 2015 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas. Charlotte Electa Wilson Butler, 96, went to her heavenly home Monday, March 2, 2015. She was born October 12, 1918 to Charles Elbert Wilson and Pearl Lavern Voiles. Charlotte was raised in Hooker and graduated from Hooker High School with the class of 1936. She then went on to attend Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, the University of Oklahoma in Norman as a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and was then accepted into the nursing program at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated with a BSN in 1941. After graduating, she moved to New Orleans to work for the US Public Health Service in maternal/child services out of Charity Hospital. In 1944, she moved to Oklahoma City to wait for her fiancé, Harry Leon Butler to be discharged from his service during WWII. They were married February 5, 1947. In the summer of 1948, they moved to Hooker and she became a full-time homemaker. Charlotte was actively involved in the community as a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank, the United Methodist Church, PEO, the Olive Warner Memorial Library board, Hagolu, scouting, bridge club, and numerous school activities. Charlotte was intelligent and fun-loving. She was a very special woman who was dearly loved by her family and friends and admired by all who knew her. She truly held a place in the Greatest Generation. Preceding her in death are: her husband, H.L., on May 1, 1986, her parents, her sister, Helen Imogene Metcalf & husband Tom, brothers/sisters-in-law: Yale & Mildred Butler, Gene & Betty Butler, Rex & Ruth Butler, Paul Arbogast, Robert Butler, and Ralph & Lila Butler She is survived by her children: Constance Butler Irby (Mike), Charles Butler (Debbie), & Cynthia Laxton. Grandchildren: Michelle Dabney (Eric), Michael Irby (Lisa), Kerri Butler Parker, Brenda Butler Grandy (Darrell), Shanon Butler (Erica), Angela Yarbrough (Eric), Cristin Blosser (Scott), & Jillian Laxton. Great Grandchildren: Emily, Claire, & Julia Dabney, McCLain, McKenzie, & McCoy Irby, Jaxson & Jordyn Parker, Matthew & Madison McMichael, Blake & Samantha Butler, Jacob, Kiera, Donavan & Aaryka Yarbrough, & Cayman Laxton. Sister-in-law: Nina Arbogast; First cousin: Adrianne LeBlanc. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday March 4, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma. Memorials are suggest to Olive Warner Memorial Library, Harry & Charlotte Butler Memorial Scholarship, or Hooker Animal Shelter and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.
