Charles Junior (CJ) Applegate

Charles Junior (CJ) Applegate, age 96, passed away Sunday evening, February 25, 2018, at the Twin Oaks Manor, Booker, Texas.
 
He was born June 7, 1921, in rural Sylvia, Kansas, the son of Charles and Kate (Green) Applegate.  As a young boy he attended school in Sylvia.  After his schooling, he joined the United States Coast Guard, serving during World War II.  Upon his discharge he returned to western Kansas, where he was farmer, rancher, and cowboy for several years in the Dodge City and Fowler areas.  He later worked for Walker Manufacturing, and later was a custodian for Fowler High School for over thirty years.  In 1999, he moved to Booker, Texas, to be near family.
On June 7, 1948, he married Georgia A. Page at Dodge City, Kansas.  She precedes him in death on October 11, 1998.
He is survived by a son, James Daniel (Jim) Applegate and wife Michelle of Beaver, Oklahoma; a daughter, Myrna Sutter of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; a sister, Myrna Robinson of Hutchinson, Kansas; six grandchildren, Logan Ball, Lisa Ball, Landon Ball, Lacey Ruhl, Jay Applegate, and Shayla Applegate Searcy; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; a brother, Gene Applegate; and a sister, Faye Breon.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at the Church of the Nazarene, Meade.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will follow in the Fowler Cemetery, Fowler..
Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Nazarene, Twin Oaks Manor, or the Charles J. Applegate Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
