Carolyn S. McNeil, a member of the Turpin, Oklahoma community, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Wheatridge Park Care Center. Carolyn was born on April 2, 1934, in Dustin, Oklahoma to Oscar Wells and Edith (Wallace) Wells.
She was united in marriage to Earl D. McNeil in 1951. Earl preceded her in death in December 1984.
Carolyn served as a dispatcher for the Dumas, Texas Police Department. She also worked as a Hostess for Liberal Inn and the Holiday Inn Restaurant and for USD 480 as teacher’s aide for many years at Southlawn Elementary in Liberal.
Carolyn attended school at Dustin High School.
Carolyn found solace in yardwork and gardening. The serenity of tending to her plants brought joy and fulfillment to her heart. Apart from cultivating nature’s wonders, Carolyn had an unwavering love for cats. Her feline companions brought endless comfort and companionship into her life.
Carolyn touched the lives of many kids with her warmth and compassion. She will be remembered for her kind-hearted nature that brightened even the dullest days. Her legacy serves as a reminder to cherish our loved ones and find joy in the simplest of pleasures.
Let us celebrate the beautiful tapestry of memories she shared with us. May we honor her life and carry forward the lessons of love and kindness she bestowed upon us all. Rest peacefully, Carolyn – your spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
She is survived by her
son Ben McNeil and his wife, Kenna McNeil, from Liberal, Kansas; her son Timothy McNeil and his wife, Tina, from Greenwood, Arkansas; her daughter Karri Hannum and her husband, John, from Hendersonville, Tennessee. Carolyn also leaves behind her dear sister Ruth Stanger from Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
Carolyn’s legacy extends through generations as she leaves behind eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren. Her love for them was unwavering and will continue to be felt in their hearts as they navigate life’s journey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Edith Wells and her late husband, Earl D. McNeil. Eight siblings: James, Jess, Roland, Rosemary Western, Dave, Pauline Huddleston, Pete, Johnny. Their presence in Carolyn’s life enriched her journey and filled her heart with deep affection.
Visitation will be 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Monday, January 22, 2024, the Funeral Service to follow at 10:00 AM at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
A burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal, Kansas.

Memorial contributions as requested by the family to Angels for Animals in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
