Joe Denoyer - December 18, 2018 1:43 pm

Carol Sterling, age 78, of Ulysses, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.  She was born January 26, 1940, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Lester Lee and Myrtle (James) Kennedy.

She lived in Ulysses the majority of her life with a brief time in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Carol was a member of the Ulysses First Baptist Church and in her early days a member of the Hickok Club and a Rainbow Girl.  She was a country girl who enjoyed the farm life and helped out in harvest by driving a grain truck.  She enjoyed woodworking and making picture frames and shelves for people.  Another hobby turned into a small business of cake making.  Sewing and playing the piano were among her many talents.  Carol’s pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved sharing pictures of with others.  Carol had a servant’s heart and was always available to provide transportation to those in need to be driven to a doctor’s appointment.  She also would read to residents of the care home.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Debbie Woodbridge and husband Rick of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Danita Pearson of Russellville, Arkansas, and Lori Melton and husband Ronnie of London, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Sterling of London, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Cade Pearson and wife Molly of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Logan Pearson of Russellville, Arkansas, Jay Hendrich of Jerrell, Texas, Derek Melton and wife Keena of London, Arkansas, and Calder Melton and wife Allison of Knoxville, Arkansas; six great-grandchildren, Keegan Melton, Emree Melton, Harper Melton, Riley Melton, Addy Pearson, and Layla Pearson; and a host of friends.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy Christian; and son, Donald Lee Sterling.

Funeral service will be Friday, December 21, 2018, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Ulysses with Pastor Jay Mykytiuk officiating.   Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, December 20, 2018, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be given to Carol’s favorite charity, the Ronald McDonald House, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS  67880.  Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
