Carmeta Charolett Smith

Carmeta Charolett Smith, 88, died Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Battlement Mesa, Colorado, with family by her side. She was born on November 28, 1936, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, the daughter of Earnest and Iceland (Morris) Wallar.

Carmeta spent her school years in Amarillo, Texas, where she found the love of her life, Monte Smith. They locked eyes, fell in love and married on May 16, 1952. She was 15 and he was 17. They were married 62 years before his passing.

Carmeta was a very godly women, to her very core. She was saved at the age of 10. Later, she helped lead her husband to Christ, becoming saved in February 1958. He gave his life to preach that summer. After being saved, she witnessed to everyone she met. Even if you were just the stranger in the waiting room. During her last days, Carmeta spread the gospel and helped lead several people to the Lord.

Carmeta was an amazing artist and especially enjoyed oil painting. Her hobbies also included: Crocheting, knitting, crafts, reading and fishing with her husband (but he had to have distance between them due to her hooking his cheek once). She spent her life writing down Bible verses, sharing them, and always speaking to God in every given situation. Her favorite hobby was reading. During the last of her time, she spent most of it reading the Bible and her collection of books.

Carmeta became a Grandmama in 1973. She dedicated most of her summers to spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed having them visit every summer, sometimes all summer to go on vacations, shopping, fishing, riding paddle boats, visiting Aunt LaVoy’s horses, going to every park imaginable, taking them to art classes and teaching them about Christ.

Carmeta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Monte Smith; daughter, Kay Anderson; son, Mark Smith; 3 grand babies; great-grandsons, Payton and Lil Mark.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Frankie and Tommie Balizan; grandchildren; Jared Anderson, Aaron and Angi Binney, Kendra Martinez, Devin Smith, Jonnie and Miranda Clayton; great-grandchildren, Chase, Jayce, Mali, Brody, Jaklyn, Jonnie, Kenneth, Amanda, Sam and Ethan; and great-great grandchildren, Jacoby, Crosby and Magnolia.

Memorial service will be Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Community Baptist Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Pastor Steve Swann, Jr. officiating. The service will be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Inurnment will be at Canton Cemetery in Canton, Oklahoma.
