Betty Gibson

Mikki Baringer - April 24, 2017 2:16 pm

Betty Lou Gibson, 86, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away April 23, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Yukon, Oklahoma.

Betty was born in Hooker on July 8, 1930, to Louie and Dora Stadel Herrmann. Four years later, her family moved to Denver, Colorado, where she spent her formative years attending school in Denver and helping her family on the farm. In 1946, she moved back to Hooker, and began working at Grey’s Rexall Drug. It was here that she met the love of her life, a Guymon boy named Dewayne Gibson.

Two years later, they were married on December 24, 1948 at Clayton, New Mexico. To this union three children were born: Gary in 1950, Carol in 1951, and Karen in 1962. Betty worked side-by-side with DeWayne for sixty-three years until his death in January of 2012.

Betty was a wonderful, nurturing mother. Home was important to her, and the needs of her family came first. She diligently taught the lessons of life about responsibility, doing your best, and doing what is right. She also taught by her example of being a humble woman who was sweet, and generous, and giving to others.

Betty had many passions. She loved gardening and trees. She was forever coming home with a new tree to plant. She was a voracious reader with wide-spread interests. She loved music of all kinds: classical, Christian, country, swing band, and marching. She was always humming or singing as she worked about the house. She had an eye for color and design, although she didn’t take art lessons until the age of eighty, winning blue ribbons for the last three years. She loved playing bridge with close friends and attending Golden Girls potluck and bingo to visit with the ladies.

Betty grew up in a Christian home, loving the Lord at an early age and was baptized at the age of nineteen. She was always active in church, and held various positions. Betty loved to read her Bible, praying for and with others with a smile on her face. It can be said she will be truly missed.

Those preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and her two sisters, Bertha Blair and Martha Smith.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory her children: Gary Gibson and his wife, Mary Ann of Hooker, Oklahoma, Carol Fankhouser and her husband, Bill of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Karen Krug and her husband Gregg of The Colony, Texas. Seven grandchildren: Jeremy Gibson, Kerri Gibson, Iva Lou DeSiata, Tami Long, Tyler Fankhouser, Austin Krug, And Chandler Krug. Eight great grandchildren: Parker, Steven, Mark, Addison, Ashlyn, Emily, Lyndee, and Kason. One sister in law: Joan Gibson Kuhn and one brother in law, Perry E. Smith and numerous nephew and nieces.

Memorials are suggested to the Hooker Library and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma, 73945.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at United Methodist Church in Hooker with Rev. Craig Denslow officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
