Alvita Joyce McCollom

PLAINS – Alvita Joyce McCollom, age 83, passed away Thursday evening, June 7, 2018, at the Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, Kansas.
She was born October 22, 1934, at Turpin, Oklahoma, the daughter of Alva D. and Margaret L. (Curt) Cullins.  As a young girl she attended grade school in Turpin, Plainview, and graduated from Boise City High School in 1952.  On December 5, 1952, she married Milo Dean McCollom at Boise City.  In 1961, they moved to Plains, Kansas, where she was a substitute school teacher, a receptionist for seventeen years for a local surgeon, a professional seamstress, both at local businesses, and at home where she continued to enjoy sewing for family and community.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Baptist Women, the Needles and Friends Quilt Guild, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by:
Four daughters,                Debra Sue Novinger and husband Brian of Omaha,AR
                                         Teresa Lynn Howard and husband Bruce of Shell Knob, MO
                                          Barbara Kay Nash and husband Craig of Belton, Texas
                                          Michelle D’Ann Riggins and husband Travis of Wichita, KS
A sister,                            Bonnie George and husband Butch of Walsh, Colorado
Two sisters-in-law,                Carol Cullins of Cache, Ok and Virginia McCollom of Hobart, Ok
Seventeen grandchildren              Twenty Six Great-Grandchildren                  Eight Great-Great-Grandchildren
She is preceded in death by her husband on October 17, 2014; her parents; and a brother, Billy Lee Cullins, two granddaughters, Brandi and Terra, 1 great-great-grandson, Cole Jax.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, Plains. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will follow the service in the Plains Cemetery.
The family would welcome memorials to the First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
