New Mexico Hands Saints First Loss

The Seward County Saints are no longer undefeated.  The New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds tripped up the Saints 81-68 Saturday afternoon at the Caster Activity Center in Hobbs.  Seward committed 25 turnovers in the loss.

It was a competitive first half as Seward led by three with 9:09 to play.  The Thunderbirds led 33-31 at halftime.  Seward led 42-40 early in the second half.  NMJC outscored SCCC 48-37 in the second half.

Seward lost despite out rebounding New Mexico 49-37.  Seward shot 38 percent from the field while going 11-26 from three point range and 19-32 at the free throw line.  NMJC shot 42 percent from the field.  They shot 11-31 from three and 12-20 from the foul line.

Lucas N’Gombo was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 12 points and 13 rebounds   Antonio Williams Jr. led the Saints with 14 points.  Lyna Brooks Jr. scored 13.  Bailey Milligan had 10 points and nine rebounds.

New Mexico is 6-0 and Seward is 5-1.  The Saints open Jayhawk Conference play at Cloud Wednesday night at 8pm on 1270 and 92.3.
