7th A and B from Coach Olvera –

The Seymour Rogers 7th Grade Basketball A-Team played Monday against Eisenhower Middle School. Both teams knew that this game would be friendly and competitive. The Apaches started off pressing and running their defense with great intensity in the first two-quarters of the game. The Warriors held the lead up until the third quarter with the score being 26-34 in favor of the Warriors. The Apaches showed perseverance the whole game and ran two different defenses. In the fourth quarter,  the Apaches played more aggressively on the full-court press which created more opportunities to score points. The Apaches kept fighting and battling for the ball throughout the fourth quarter which led to the final score being 39-42 in favor of the Apaches.

The Apaches 7th Grade Basketball B-Team played Monday against EMS. The Apaches tried to play their best defense against the Warriors by pressing full court. In the first quarter, the game stayed pretty even with both teams scoring the ball back and forth. In the second quarter, the Warriors started to press also on the Apaches allowing them more opportunities to score. The Apaches started to use different strategies to try to score and win the game. The Apaches played with great effort until the last minute of the game. The final score was 41-14 in favor of the Warriors.

The Eisenhower Warrior 7th Grade Boys traveled to Hays Saturday for a second round meeting with Hays and Great Bend.

The Warriors took on Hays in the first game matching Hays to draw at 7 after the first quarter. The next two quarters saw the Warriors struggle offensively as the Falcons pulled away for a 41-24 win.

Christian Gonzalez Moreno led the Warriors with 20 points While Chris Moreno and Matthew Robledo each added 2 points.

The Second game against Great Bend had the Warriors controlling the tempo and the lead throughout the contest: Leading 37-33 with 30 seconds left in the game, the Panthers had two series on their side of the court where they capitalized on rebounding to take their first lead of the game and defeating the Warriors 38-37. We had opportunities to put this game away, but in the end defensive rebounding proved to be a crucial misfire.

Leading the Warriors against the Panthers was Christian Gonzalez Moreno 23 points, Matthew Robledo 6 points, Chris Moreno 4 points while Chase Mertes and Julian Loya added 2 points each.

The Warriors continue the season Monday night at the “MAC” (MacArthur Elementary) and on the road Thursday against Horace Good.

From Coach Sill –

On 2/3/24 SRMS Girls Wrestling competed in Dodge City for the Cowgirl Capital Clash 2024. SRMS placed 5th out of 15 total teams. Four girls, Yazmine Ponce, Miranda Delgado, Ana Vela, and Yaretza Rosas placed third in their weight classes and Evelyn Sandoval placed 2nd in her weight class. All the girls were extremely competitive and had a lot of fun for their first tournament of the season. We have some things to work on but overall we are extremely proud of all their hard work and are looking forward to the rest of the season.
