The Apaches Track team began the month with a big start in the Dan Cutting Invitational. The morning began with a strong start by D’Marcus Denton placing 2nd in the 8th grade boys high jump after a jump off in a 3 way tie after clearing 5’2”. Gerardo Mercado continued in pace with a record breaking 18′ 6 ” in long jump to land him the gold medal in this meet. As the running events began the Apaches set the pace in the 3200m run with Bella Patel placing 2nd overall and Danna Ortega in 1st for the 7th grade girls. This was followed up by Alex Gutierrez taking 2nd place in the 7th grade boys 3200m run. Apaches stayed strong moving into the 8th grade boys with Marco Rivas placing 3rd overall in the 3200m run. The Apaches remained consistent as the day went on with Ben Brockett placing 3rd overall in the 8th grade boys 1600m run. Ariadne Ortega taking 2nd overall in the 8th grade girls 100m Hurdles. D’Marcus Denton continued in stride with hurdles by taking 3rd overall in the 8th grade boys 100m hurdles and 2nd overall in the 8th grade boys 200m hurdles. As the hurdles concluded Gerardo Mercado led the way in 200m dash receiving 3rd place overall for 8th grade boys. Chris Marin remained in stride in the 200m dash taking 2nd place overall for the 7th grade boys and concluded the medal count with taking 2nd overall for 7th grade boys in the 400m dash. The Apaches received multiple points by individual athletes along with a few relays! Issac Gonzalez taking 4th overall in 8th grade boys shot and following in 5th overall was Alejandro Rendon! Kamora Dean took 6th overall in the 8th grade girls shot out with Maryela Vargas not far behind in 8th! Odette Ortega took 5th overall in the 7th grade girls shot out. Everett Dean was just shy of pointing in 7th grade girls discus and received 7th overall. Kamora Dean stayed consistent and took 6th overall in 8th grade girls discus as well. Issac Gonzalez remained in the running taking 5th overall in the 8th grade boys discus. Ashley Vizcarra continued the point match by taking 4th overall for the 8th grade girls 3200m run. The Apaches 4×800 7th grade relay team took 5th overall. Maliha Navarro remained strong in the 100m and 200m hurdles taking 4th overall. Alvin Amador and Juandavid Melchor just missed pointing in their 100m hurdles. Viviana Favila gained a few more points by taking 4th in the 7th grade girls 1600m run and 5th overall in the open 800m. The Apaches relays included points by the 7th grade girls 4×100 with 4th overall, the 8th grade girls 4×100 with 5th overall, and the 8th grade boys 4×100 with 4th overall by a tenth of a second. The 8th grade girls also participated in a Medley relay receiving 5th overall. These lists could go on merely stating the progression each one of our athletes have shown this year. Overall the Apaches have continued to show growth through each meet!
