First game against Hugoton we received the ball. Starting on the court were
Sofia Byrd, Jazlin Marquez, Arisbeth Guadalupe, Karyme Beltran, Angelique
Castro and Ingrid Padilla. The set stayed consistent with serves and
occasional passes over. There were a few dropped balls. The first set was
won by Hugoton. In the second set, our starting players were Niann Moreno,
Evelyn Rivas, Karidee McLane, Aidaly Landeros, Sarahi Rivera Alvarez, and
Alyra Arzate. The second set started us off well with Nia successfully
having 4 consistent serves to the opposing team. This set there were a lot
of passes between teams keeping a consistent pace. Karidee took a few
passes right at the sideline on the front row, successfully saving them.
Hugoton took the second set.

Second game against Ulysses we again received the ball first. Roster line
up for the sets are the same from the Hugoton game. Sofia, Jazlin and
Angelique met multiple serves over each time up. There was great
communication on passing the ball over the net. Karyme Beltran successfully
had 3 hits (spikes) over the net. The set stayed close in score the entire
time finishing with 22-20, Ulysses taking the set. On the second set,
Evelyn Rivas started her serving streak with 6 consecutive serves to the
opposing team, 4 of them being aces. Aidaly Landeros had several passes to
the other team, as well as Alyra Arzate. Sarahi Rivera assisted Aidaly by
setting multiple passes over the net. Evelyn received many passes when on
the back row to which she got back to the other team. This set was very
close, much like the first, with Ulysses taking the second set.

The Seymour Rogers Apaches opened up their season yesterday at the Hugoton
Middle School Triangular. The first match was against Ulysses the Lady
Apaches came out strong but would struggle to find their footing in both
sets losing the first match. The second match was against Hugoton and the
Lady Apaches found their rhythm. In the first set they would take the lead
late and win 21-19. However after struggling to find their rhythm again
they would lose the second set 9-21. This would force a third set. The Lady
Apaches took a quick lead with unreturned serves and would hold this lead
throughout the third set ultimately winning and taking the match. “The team
worked incredibly hard and battled until the very end, never giving up. I
am so proud of them and excited to see where the rest of the season takes
us.” -Coach Kelley

*7B from Coach Sill – *
7th grade B team played their first two games of the season on Tuesday,
8/31. They were a little tentative in the beginning but by the second set
the nerves were gone and the girls were truly working hard and having fun
with the game. We found some new things to work on but our team is excited
for what’s to come in the rest of the season!
