From Coaches Arnold and Sill –

The Apaches Girls wrestling team competed at the MSWAC championships Saturday at Liberal High School. The format for Saturday, had just varsity wrestlers involved. Meaning for the Apaches, they were wrestling girls that they had typically not wrestled in the 3 previous meets.

The Apaches had wrestled as beginner and intermediate experience wrestlers before the championship. Keirsie Carlile took home the championship medal in the 75 weight class and was the only medal winner for the Apaches. Amelia Alarcon in the115 lb weight class, was the only other wrestler that had a win in the competition. Eighth graders Daira Ontiveros and Karely Peralta, and 7th grader Jovanna Raigoza all finished in fourth place or lower. Alexa Macias won her only exhibition match and finished the season, 3 -1.The first ever all girls wrestling program had a great season with as many as 8 girls wrestling at different times during the season. Four of those wrestlers were 7th graders and hopefully will make up the core of the team for next year.
