The Seward County Saints split a double header with the #20 Hutchinson Blue Dragons Thursday afternoon and evening at Brent Gould Field. Michael Lujan pitched a complete game in the game one 7-1 Seward win. Hutch out-slugged the Saints 24-14 in game two as the Blue Dragons hit six home runs.
The Saints won game one 7-1. SCCC held HCC to a season low one run. The Saints out-hit the Dragons 8-4. Hutch had three errors. Hutchinson scored one in the second. The Saints countered with three. Blaine Chancy tripled to left to begin the inning. An error scored the first run. Juan Alvarez delivered a clutch two out two RBI single to right to make it 3-1. In the third, Grant Cox singled and Blaine Chancy hit a towering home run to right for his 11th of the season and a 5-1 lead. Blaine Chancy ripped a two RBI double to left center in the fifth for the 7-1 lead. Michael Lujan was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Michael Lujan with a complete game on five strikeouts and no walks. Blaine Chancy went 3-3 with a home run, a triple, a double, and four RBI’s. Grant Cox and Juan Alvarez had two hits a piece.
With winds blowing out 25-35 miles per hour, Hutchinson out slugged Seward 24-14 in game two. The Blue Dragons, who lead the Jayhawk West in hitting and home runs, slugged six home runs in the win. Seward scored first as Juan Alvarez hit a two run home run in the first. The Dragons scored one in the second, two in the third, and seven in the fourth to lead 10-2. Isai Santaella hit a two run home run in the fourth to make it 10-4. HCC countered with five in the fifth to lead 15-4. SCCC scored five in the sixth led by David Brabb’s three RBI triple to center. That made the scored 15-9. The Blue Dragons plated one in the seventh and six in the eighth to lead 22-9. Seward scored five in the eighth on six singles. Garrett Fuentes delivered an RBI single. Diego Munoz had a two RBI single. Khale Leblanc had a two RBI single. The Dragons out-hit the Saints 20-16 and SCCC committed four errors while Hutchinson had two. Isai Santaella was 3-6 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI’s, and three runs. Diego Munoz was 3-5.
Hutchinson is 35-11 overall and 17-5 in the Jayhawk West. Seward is 22-26 overall and 14-8 in the Jayhawk West. The same two teams play Saturday at 1pm at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson with pre-game at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
