LHS Tennis Shuffles Lineup at Meade

Brock Kappelmann - April 12, 2024 5:58 am

David Short

The boys tennis team finally stayed close to town Thursday and traveled to Meade to play a tough tournament. The tournament had some quality tennis teams in Meade, South Barber, Cimarron, Larned, Ulysses and Liberal. We don’t have the official team standings at this point but Cimarron did come out on top.

Individually:
1 doubles – Emmanuel Garcia & Parker Brown reunited for the first time this year and played very well. They finished 1-2 but both losses came in tie-breakers to teams that placed in state last year. Both were winnable matches that came down to just 2 points. Their win came against Ulysses 6-2.
2 doubles – Jovanni Garcia & Daniel Nguyen joined forces for the first time and took home the gold. They finished 3-0 by winning easily over Ulysses, S. Barber and Meade.
1 singles – Ryan Zhang is still getting the hang of varsity competition and we continue to rotate 3 boys in the 2 singles positions. He got his first varsity win over Larned but dropped the other to go 1-3. He showed much improvement throughout the day.
2 singles – Jackson Dodge had his best tournament to date. He took home the silver medal with a 2nd place finish. He won his first 2 matches over South Barber and Larned and dropped the championship match to Cimarron in a close match.
The boys continue to improve as we continue to find our most competitive lineup. The boys travel to Buhler on Tuesday to compete with some tough teams from all over the state before finally getting a week off to practice.
