LHS Softball Returns Three All WAC Players for New Coach

The Liberal softball program has a new head coach beginning the 2024 season. After five seasons, Tom McClure left Liberal for Emporia, Bre Kelley moves from assistant to head coach in the program. Liberal was 6-15 last year and 3-9 in the WAC but returns three all WAC players from that team. LHS expects to play the most games they have ever played with 26 games on the schedule.
Kelley has been an assistant the past two years in the program. She is in Liberal for her 4th year and is a P.E. teacher at Seymour Rogers Middle School. Kelley is from Monett, Missouri and was as assistant coach there one year. She played softball at Cottey College and Friends University.
Junior Zoey Torres was first team all WAC as a sophomore while juniors Taylor Harding and Lexi Miller were second team all WAC. Torres will anchor the pitching staff along with Harding and Sr. Madalyn McCarter. Sophomore Miley Janko could see time in the circle for the varsity as well. Sr. Lizzy Mannel will be a varsity catcher for a third season. So. Melanie Rosales can help behind the dish. Jr. Lexi Miller will play first for a third season. Jr. Adriana Armendariz will play second with the Jr. Harding at short. Sr. Marypher Lopez plays third. The Sr. Madalyn McCarter plays center with Jr. McKenna Alexander in left and So. Avah Herrera in right. Rosales can also play outfield.
LHS is three years removed from breaking a 65 game WAC losing streak which ran from 2012 to 2021. Last LHS has been 3-9 in the WAC each of the last two years. Liberal’s last winning season was 2019 when they were 12-9.
