Head coach Matt Quint and the LHS softball team accomplished a lot in 2025.  The team went 15-13 which was their first winning season since 2019.  They won a post season game for the first time ever.  Three players from that team went on to college softball as Taylor Harding and Lexi Miller went to Seward and Zoey Torres went to Garden City.  They surely will miss these three and the measurable in intangibles they brought to the team.  But the Lady Redskins returns a strong core of sophomores, many of whom started last year as freshmen.  Haiden Lyon returns after a 2nd team all WAC season as a freshman.

Quint says he is excited by his team’s trio of pitchers.  All are sophomores as Haiden Lyon, Devaney Carter, and Allie Champion will handle most of the pitching duties.  Lyon, Sr. Miley Janko, and Sr. Melanie Rosales are catchers.  Champion and Sr. Jayline Hernandez play first.  Janko and Carter will hold down third base.  Lyon and So. Rebecca McLane play short.  Sr. Karidee McLane and Jr. Rebecca Davis play second.  So. Brooklyn Short returns to the outfield and plays center and left.  Sr. Emily Arredondo plays left along with Sr. Melaina Puett.  Sr. Natalie Naranjo, Sr. Avah Herrera, and Jr. Salina Ontiveros can play right.  So. Viviana Favila will return to the outfield when she recovers from an injury.

LHS is five years removed from breaking a 65 game WAC losing streak which ran from 2012 to 2021. Last year, LHS was 15-13 overall and 3-9 in the WAC.  Two years ago, Liberal was 4-17 overall and 1-11 in the WAC.  During 2023 and 2022 LHS has been 3-9 in the WAC. Liberal’s last winning season was 2019 when they were 12-9.
