The Liberal girls soccer team lost a wild game with #9 Wichita East Aces 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Wichita South Titan Classic.

Liberal scored first in the first half at the 13 minute mark as Stefany Ortuno found Ashley Carrillo to open up the score.  East tied it at 1-1 just a minute later.  The Aces took a 2-1 lead at the 17 minute mark.  Hailey Contreras found Carrillo at the 21 minute mark to tie the score at 2-2.  One minute later, Valeria Gonzalez found Carrillo for the go ahead goal for a 3-2 Liberal lead.  LHS led 3-2 at halftime.

After more opportunities created by both teams, East found the equalizer with seven minutes remaining in the game on a big strike outside the 18 yard box.  East scored to take the lead with just two minutes remaining.

Liberal led shots on goal 8-6 and East led corner kicks 3-2.  Liberal led offsides  calls 3-2.

Coach Carlo Ruiz comments:

“I am very proud of the way the girls played and out played a team like East for the majority of the game.  After a long week of traveling and leaving town  today at 5 am to face a strong opponent is tough to do as it is but our girls fought and showed great teamwork and progress.  Our girls showed what kind of team we are and gained the respect that they deserve.  We have a big conference week this next week as we travel to Great Bend Tuesday and host Hays Thursday night.”
