The LHS girls wrestling team competed this weekend at the Christmas Clash in Great Bend, one of the toughest tournaments for this part of the season. Facing strong competition, the team finished in 8th place out of 33 teams in attendance. Leading the way was Genesis Orrantia, who scored 28 team points, followed by strong performances from Evelyn Sandoval and Aileen Figueroa. Throughout the tournament, the team showed noticeable improvement, continued to battle in every match, and worked hard all the way through their final match. Liberal took 9 wrestlers and 8 placed as follows:
Genesis Orrantia – 2nd
Evelyn Sandoval – 4th
Aileen Figueroa – 5th
Brianna Pinon – 7th
Zoe Riddle – 12th
Ashley Vizcarra – 14th
Alexis Luna – 14th
Juana Perez – DNP
Nayeli Andrade – 11th place
The girls will be back in the wrestling room to continue working on fixing the areas that still need some improvement, as they prepare to finish off the first part of the season.

The boys varsity wrestling team competed in the Colby Eagle Invitational dual tournament this weekend. The team went 4-4 and secured 8th place out of 16 schools.
The boys battled hard and improved as the days went on. It came down to a few close matches from getting us a higher placement. I’m hoping we can continue to improve and grow in our defense as the season goes on.
