LHS Drops South Titan Classic Opener in OT

After a win in PK’s at Borger and 1-0 loss at Dodge City, the Liberal soccer team played another nail biter on Monday.  Emporia topped Liberal 2-1 in overtime in the first round of the Wichita South Titan Classic.

Kayla Gokey scored 15 minutes into the first half unassisted.  She took a shot from outside the 18 and sailed it over the keeper.  The Spartans tied it a few minutes later to send the teams to a 1-1 tie at the half.  The teams were scoreless in the second half and went into a golden goal overtime.  Emporia scored four minutes in on a counter attack that left their forward one on one with LHS goalie Reyna Gonzalez.  Liberal dominated the stat book leading shots on goal 16-5.  Liberal will play Wichita Heights Wednesday after their 3-2 overtime loss to Hutchinson .  LHS is 1-2.
