Liberal, Kansas – Saturday afternoon the Seward County Lady Saints women’s basketball team took to the court inside of the Green House against a long familiar Jayhawk conference for in the Colby Trojans where despite trailing by as much as sixteen, the Lady Saints were able to complete a massive comeback thanks to some elite sharpshooting to take a 67-60 win.

Xoe Rosalez started the game off hot with a quick corner three off an assist by Kayla Peoples to put the Lady Saints ahead 3-0 in the opening minute before Jamia Carter slashed her way down the lane for two points plus the foul to grow the lead to 7-2. Colby managed to answer back and tie up the score but a big steal from Rosalez led to a fast break score for Peoples and kept the Seward County lead alive 12-9 until a 7-0 run from the Trojans caused the Lady Saints to end the first quarter behind 16-12.

The second quarter started just like the first with a big corner three for the Lady Saints, this time by Biyyanah Ellis who was joined a few minutes later by Naomi Aragonez who also cashed in from long range to retake a 20-19 lead over the Trojans. A huge 13-3 run by Colby put Seward County in the rearview mirror 32-23 for a few minutes until Carter and Alianna Colon combined for back-to-back steal and scores that trimmed the Trojan lead back to five entering the halftime break down 32-27.

Colby cam out of the second half on fire with the Lady Saints unable to hold back the Trojan’s offense as Seward County fell behind by thirteen before the media timeout. Aragonez continued her red-hot shooting from the first half with another triple to cut it back to ten and a few minutes later she cashed in another one to bring it to six at 47-41. Rosalez passed a dimer to Ari Gordon on the cut for an easy layup and in the final seconds of the third SCCC was able to bring the score to within one as Aragonez sunk her fourth three-pointer of the afternoon to head into the fourth quarter with Colby’s lead torn down to 47-46.

Once again the Trojans opened up the quarter with an offensive run that put the Lady Saints’ behind by seven 53-46 before a big time three from Peoples brought it back down to two and moments later she snatched away a steal and pulled up from long range for another triple that gave SCCC a 63-60 lead and it was over from their as Gordon scored off a steal of her own to seal it at 67-60 for the Lady Saints’ fourth conference win of the season.
