Lady Redskins Clamp Down on Colby

Liberal overcame foul trouble to win their 2020-2021 season opener 41-30 Friday night in the Colby Community Building.  Liberal had to display their depth as starters Aubrey Warden, Rylie Hallman, Bree Horyna, and Ashley Carrillo fought off foul trouble.

Colby jumped out to a 12-6 advantage and a  12-8 lead over LHS in the first quarter.  The Lady Redskins buoyed by several Carrillo runners built a 19-14 lead with a 13-2 run.  LHS led 22-19 at the half.  Libral built leads of 26-19 and 28-21.  It was 28-24 LHS after three.  The Lady Eagles cut the lead to 28-26 early in the third quarter.  Freshman Hailey Contreras buried a three pointer to extend the lead to 31-26.

Liberal held Colby to 1-18 shooting from three point range.  Ashley Carrillo scored 15 and Hailey Contreras dropped in 11.

The Lady Red win their sixth straight opener and their 28th straight road game.  Liberal plays at Holcomb Tuesday night at 6 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
