The Liberal Lady Redskins won the Backyard Battle for the Bell Thursday night at Dodge City Fieldhouse. Liberal led by as many as 33 on the way to a 63-33 win. Liberal wins their 6th straight against Dodge.
Liberal jumped out to a lead of 14-0 and 24-5 after one quarter. LHS forced DCHS into nine first quarter turnovers. The Lady Red led 31-12 in the second quarter. The Lady Redskins led 39-20 at halftime after a pair of three pointers by Kylie Rhine. Liberal led 57-28 with 1:47 to play in the third. Liberal led 59-30 after three quarters.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Shamari Lewis with 20 points eight rebounds, seven steals, and five assists. Maliayah Mullens added 14 points. Kylie Rhine scored 12 and made two more three pointers raising her record settting total to 49 this season.
Liberal shot 49 percent making 7-16 from three and 8-10 at the foul line. Dodge City shot 22 percent going 2-16 from three and 7-18 from the foul line.
Dodge City is 8-15 overall and finishes 1-7 in the WAC. Liberal is 17-3 overall and 6-2 in the WAC. Liberal hosts sub state Tuesday night on 1270 and 92.3.
